Monica Carusetta-Davies has been in the restaurant business for close to 35 years. Her experience began at a young age as the third generation family owners and operators of the Rex Hotel, one of Niagara’s most well known Italian restaurants. She worked along side her father Aldo Carusetta and developed the same passion for the recipes that passed through the generations of her family.
Fred spent many years in the industry as well beginning as a board member and President of the Port Colborne Club, known in its day as one of the finest private dining establishments in Ontario. The building later evolved into the Roselawn Centre for the Arts where Fred continued to manage the facility for several years, including the reintroduction of fine dining and an award winning wine selection.
The inspiration for San Marco’s derives from two very special people. Monica’s mother Phyllis was nicknamed “Marco Polo” by her father. She was always off some where, generally helping with the building of the business at the Rex and returning with new ideas.
Monica’s husband Fred also lends a connection to this new name. His grandfather Giacomo Milani was born in San Marco, Treviso, Italy. It became evident during the building phase of this restaurant that the name must reflect this shared heritage and be a tribute to the names that were important in their lives. Hence, San Marco’s Ristorante was chosen.
There are items on the menu that reflect the connections that Monica and Fred have to Italian cuisine from their past, but also from their travels where people have been willing to share unique and contemporary variations to traditional dishes.
And in keeping with this tradition of great Italian food, we hope you enjoy our style and casual presentation. We strived to provide you with a relaxed atmosphere, music that brings back memories, and cuisine that gives you a diverse range of tastes and pleasure at a very reasonable price.
